ABOUT CHAU SAU LAN

Chau Sau-lan, born and raised in Hong Kong. She completed her BA in Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She started gaining recognition with her painting Good afternoon! Sai Kung! , which won the Hong Kong Fine Art Prize at the Hong Kong Contemporary in 2014. Subsequently, Sau-lan was granted a month-long artist residency at the Namsong Art Museum, Korea.

Later on, she developed her intriguing genre paintings inspired by the grassroots culture from her upbringing. Her works often depict the realities of the lower class and address humanity issues. Her approach to serious matters, combined with humour and positivity, has become her signature style.

In recent years, she has drawn to interacting closely with her audiences, which incubated the Mini Portraits Project, and she established her brand <<Sau Sau Portrait>>, where she creates customized portraits and has built a reputation.

Sau-lan’s works have been shown in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, United Kingdom and the Netherlands, and her paintings have been collected by UOW College Hong Kong, Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong, Namsong Art Museum and private owners.
